A longer brand guide is not automatically a more useful one. I start with the decisions another person will need to repeat: basic use, minimum size, clear space, colour and typography. Examples should help answer those practical questions.
Applications can follow once the foundations are clear. A guide becomes valuable when it reduces uncertainty in everyday use. I would rather include a small number of relevant examples than a large set of decorative pages that leave important rules unexplained.
