A working journal can record decisions that would otherwise disappear between versions. A few notes about the brief, rejected directions and selected approach can help explain a project later. I prefer a small, consistent record to a retrospective story built from memory.

The public case study does not need every note. The archive provides material from which to choose the most relevant decisions. This makes the final presentation more specific while leaving private conversations and internal material out of view.
