Content becomes easier to maintain when it can be exported in a readable structure. A collection of articles and project metadata should not be tied permanently to one theme or interface. I see portability as a useful part of ownership.
The export needs to explain what it includes. Text and metadata are different from uploaded media, private settings and client records. A clear scope makes the file useful for migration without suggesting that it replaces every other kind of backup.
