A dashboard should describe what the system actually knows. Content totals, open tasks and recent editor actions can be useful even when the numbers are small. Invented traffic charts create an impression that the application cannot support.
I prefer to label each number according to its source and purpose. An editor activity list is not visitor analytics, and a project total is not a business outcome. Clear boundaries make the overview easier to trust and act on.
