A short engagement can still contain useful design work. I do not think it needs to be expanded into a dramatic transformation story to deserve a place in a portfolio. A clear account of the task and contribution can stand on its own.
The right amount of context depends on the available material. If a result cannot be substantiated, I would rather explain the deliverable and its intended use. This keeps the experience readable and gives the viewer a fair basis for assessing the work.
